COACHING
MARK and TERRI AMMERMAN
"A Ministry to the Minister"
PARAKALEO, is a coaching ministry of "coming alongside" other ministers in the walk of life.
Mark and Terri's heart is to hear your dreams, rejoice in your victories, pray with you, weep with you, encourage and resource you in the practical aspects of marriage, family, ministry and congregational life. They will ask you the questions (the tough questions, sometimes) that help you hear God's answer for yourself. Parakaleo is a coach, not a crutch; a guide, not a guru.

"Mark and Terri have a variety of giftings and years of experience with organizations, ministries and leadership teams across denominational lines. There is a wholesome touch of 'family' in all they do: preaching, teaching, singing and coming alongside others to encourage and counsel. They bring a necessary yet much neglected message concerning the biblical values and attributes that our Christian homes should reflect."

PASTORAL CARE and COACHING
The best way to introduce the topic of PASTORAL CARE and COACHING might be to ask a simple question: While you shepherd the flock in your care, who takes care of you? THE HEALTH OF THE SHEPHERD DETERMINES THE HEALTH OF THE SHEEP. The condition of the shepherd's household and his overall life will be reproduced in the condition of the household of God under that shepherd's care. That's why God's standards for leadership are so high...and so clearly written down for us in Scripture (1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus chapters 1 and 2.) The Lord of the Church wants us to place only spiritually and socially mature men in pastoral leadership. But once we place them in leadership, how do we help THEM grow? How do we help them, their spouses and their families stay healthy...stay on track...stay connected to relationships and resources that continually stir them up to love and good works? We ALL need ongoing, caring, accountable relationships: peers, friends, counselors, coaches. We ALL need encouragement, grace, strength in times of weakness, help in times of need. None of us have seen tomorrow yet...with all its challenges. Who is equipping us? Encouraging us? Engaging us in the day-day-day stuff of life? PARAKALEO is a Greek word which means "to call alongside." PARAKALEO is a "ministry to the minister." It is a "life coaching" ministry dedicated to helping our planters, pioneers, pastors and partners to excel in areas of life where they need (and want) the most help. PARAKALEO is a relational, pastoral care ministry created especially to serve you. |

"Mark and Terri Ammerman have been instrumental in the life of our family. They have cared for and comforted us in challenging times when discouragement and confusion clouded our thinking. In a cynical and self-centered world, they have proven to show genuine concern for us, and we are eternally grateful for their involvement in our lives."

A NETWORK of CARE
PARAKALEO can help you create and maintain a NETWORK OF CARE for you and your family, to insure that you are well cared for as you shepherd and care for others. PARAKALEO doesn't need to BE that network (in fact, we can't be), but we will help you find that network, create that network, connect to that network, and open yourself up to the work of the Holy Spirit in your life through that network.
There are 7 key relational components to a Network of Care.

CARING for the Heart
We all need friends, people who will care for our hearts. People who know us best. Who will listen to us, love us, ask the hard questions, give the hard answers, stick with us through thick and thin, keep us accountable to our walk with God. Encourage us. Affirm us. Sharpen us. Correct us, if need be. And HAVE FUN WITH US. The book of Proverbs is loaded with rich insight into our need for friends (Proverbs 17:17, 18:24, 27:6, 27:10, 27:17.)

CHERISHING the Family
The family is of primary importance to God. He created marriage and family before he created the church or the tribe of the city or the nation. We understand the very nature of God and our place in him through language rooted in family. God is a Father. All father- hood, all family finds definition in him. One of the qualifications for pastoral leadership is success in family life, success in first discipling the children in our own homes (1 Timothy 3:3-5, Titus 1:6). Marriage was created to reflect the very nature of God...and to reflect the relationship between God and his own family (Ephesians 5:21-33). Biblical marriage and a strong biblical family are foundational for the church of Jesus Christ.

COLLEGIAL Support
It is not good for man to lead alone. God wants us to have the support, partnership, encouragement and wisdom of "collegial" relationships...with other Christian leaders, with peers on the journey with us. Ideally, we are not leading alone in our local church settings--but rather with other leaders: pastors, elders, deacons. The New Testament is filled with examples of "collegial" relationship: men leading together. And outside our local church, we need to network with other leaders in our communities. It's not enough to simply relate to our denomination, our national fellowship or the church that may have planted us. We need to be reaching out and connecting with peers in our communities. Solomon said that "A neighbor who is near is better than a brother who is far off." Do you have a Bible study or prayer group with the leaders in your church? With other local Christian leaders?

COACHING for Skills
We all need continual training, study and personal encouragement and advice to sharpen our understanding of biblical truth and life issues. We all need "coaching" in various aspects of our lives...help in figuring out stuff we've never done before...or which we don't do well. We need people helping us personally in specific ways: finances, parenting, effective preaching, leadership training, evangelistic vision, a simple plan of discipleship for our people--or just learning to relax! WHO IS COACHING YOU?
COMMITMENT to and from the System
We all need healthy relational connection "to and from the system" which sent us out, the fellowship or denomination that we belong to. Just as we need to be connected locally to the Father's church ("collegial support"), we need to maintain healthy discourse with the "mother church" or denomination. We need to value those we are "related" to in the body of Christ, and they need to value and affirm us.

COVERING Spiritually
We all pray. We all believe in the need for prayer. We may have prayer meeting nights in our church...a prayer breakfast. We pray at meals. We pray before meetings. BUT...are we covered spiritually? Are others praying for us, interceding for us? Do you have an intercessory team which knows your needs, which is praying for you, your family, your ministry? Jesus prays for us always. Thank God for that! But we need to be praying for one another. Pastors need prayer.

CRISIS Assistance
We all need "all of the above." But there are times when "all of the above" is not enough. Life is full of "crisis" (as every pastor knows, whether you've got one congregant or 1,000.) And sometimes crises happen in our own homes. We need crisis assistance. Marriage counseling. Children with special needs. Grief counseling. Sickness, disability, depression, burnout. Do you know where to go in times of crisis?
